Coalface Trademark:
Strengthening the Brand as We Scale
Coalface has taken a further step in consolidating its brand by submitting the formal application to register the Coalface trademark. This reflects the maturity of the consultancy and the growing recognition of our work across planning, engagement and governance.
The Coalface name now anchors a suite of specialist services including Coalface Engagement, Coalface Insights and the Coalface Council Scanner. These strands sit within a single disciplined brand architecture. Registering the mark protects that structure and provides clarity for clients as we expand the range of senior led products and advisory work.
Registering a trademark is not a marketing gesture. It is a practical step that supports growth, reinforces identity and protects the distinctiveness of a business built around political fluency and planning system insight. It ensures that Coalface continues to stand out in a crowded sector where many practices adopt similar language and interchangeable positioning.
We will continue to use the Coalface mark with the existing indicator while the application completes. There is no change for clients or partners. The trademark simply formalises what already exists: a clear, coherent and senior practitioner led offer supported by a consistent set of sub brands.
The application strengthens the foundations under the wider growth plans. As Coalface prepares to launch the Local Government Reorganisation series and new product, securing the trademark ensures that the brand can grow with confidence.
