Local Government Reorganisation
Golden bullet or poison pill for Planning?
Receive each new article in the Series as it is published
The Government is undertaking the most significant restructuring of English local government in decades to support delivery of 1.5 million new homes. These changes will reshape how planning authorities work, how decisions are made, and how risk is managed across the entire system.
Will LGR create a simpler, faster planning environment? Or will new structures, legacy technology and political instability slow decisions even further?
This Series sets out what LGR means for planners, developers and planning officers, and for everyone dependent on efficient decision-making.
LGR Governance Series:
Launch Update
The first release in the LGR Governance Series is running slightly behind schedule. Interest from councils, promoters and programme sponsors has been stronger than expected, and we are folding more of those questions and examples into the opening pieces. It means a short delay but a sharper, more useful series when it lands. A revised publication date will be shared shortly.
This insight piece, developed by Coalface Insights, part of Coalface™, is designed to help everyone in the planning system navigate LGR and to support stronger governance and oversight. It calls on applicants and planning services to use this moment as a clean-slate opportunity to build a planning system that is robust, swift and proportionate.
We thank everyone who participated in helping to develop it.
